"...I don't take myself very seriously.
There's an old Italian proverb that sticks in my mind a lot:
'When the chess game is over, the pawns, rooks, kings and
queens all go back into the same box.'
Somehow I find that quite an important comment."
~ Irvin D. Yalom

Been busy as a little bee...

Yes, it has been a while and you have been missed.  You see, it was my birthday on April first and I have not yet stopped celebrating.

I am a voracious reader.  I love books, especially about the subjects I hold so near and dear.

Well, a good friend of mine bought me a very sweet gift - a gift card for a local book store.

Staring At The Sun

While shopping I spied something new from one of my favorite authors, Irvin D. Yalom, M.D., existentialist, psychotherapist and author of such books as "Love's Executioner" and "When Nietzshe Wept".

This book is called "Staring at the Sun: Overcoming The Terror of Death".

Over the years the majority of my work has been with those facing terminal illness or those dealing with grief and loss and I have found that aspect of my work both the most challenging as well as the most transformative.

Facing the universal issue of one's own mortality may not be as morbid as one may think on first glance.

Dr. Yalom's book looks at the potential that exists in facing one's own mortality.

The waking up to our own mortality begs the question - so we are here and some day we won't be, so what will we do in the meantime?

Talk with you soon,

Very best,
Dr. E
